The story begins with a brief prologue set in the 13th Century, in which a calligrapher is completing a copy of the Koran and his assistant is sent out for ink so he can complete the project before an invading Mongol army attacks....。白石饰演的主角小野田诗弦就读于京都市内大学的女大生，开始了期盼已久的单身生活，但恐怖报纸就送来了。一开始以为是恶作剧的诗弦，后来接二连三地发生了和报纸上写的一样的事件。由于“恐怖新闻”一天读一次就会缩短100天的寿命，让前途广阔的大学生活也会变成与死亡相伴的噩梦。。
